Will Color Damage My Hair?

When done professionally—and paired with bond-building treatments like K18—color services can be both safe and healthy for your hair. That said, your hair’s integrity is always my top priority. I take the time to carefully assess the condition of your hair before moving forward with any lightening or chemical services. If I don’t feel your hair is ready, I’ll be honest with you and we’ll come up with a plan to get it there safely.

Healthy hair is beautiful hair, and I believe in creating results that not only look amazing but feel good too. I’ll always recommend the right in-salon treatments and at-home care to keep your hair strong, shiny, and thriving between visits.

Remember, I get to see you once every few months. So the time you take to care for your hair in between visit’s are just as important as the ground work we lay in the salon! Take care of that beautiful hair you have just invested in.

How Often Should I Come In For Maintenance?

Root touch-ups are typically needed every 4–6 weeks, while highlights or balayage can be refreshed every 8–12 weeks depending on how soft or bold the look is. With each visit we will consult on what timeline would work best to keep your style looking its best.

How Should I Prepare For My Color Appointment?

We will have the best results if you can come with clean, dry hair that’s free of heavy styling products or oils. This also includes colored root sprays.

Neutral colored clothing is great for any before & after photos we may take.

Please choose clothing that is not bulky or high necked, these can make it tricky for us stylists to reach the locks we need to work our magic. Layers are great for comfort to make sure your ready for any sudden temperature twists.

Commonly Asked Color Questions

  • Balayage is the art of hand painted highlighting and low lighting. Balayage gives a soft, lived in dimension. Naturally lightened/sunkissed look. Perfect for someone wanting a low maintenance, blended pop of color that will last.

  • Teasylights is a technique used to create a high impact brightening while giving a soft blended grow out at the roots. Perfect combination to create bright pops of blonde while keeping a diffused look at the root!

  • After we lighten or color your hair, the last step I always recommend is a toner or gloss. This is what really perfects the color. When hair is lightened, it can reveal warm tones like yellow or orange. A toner helps balance those tones so your color looks exactly how we want it—whether that’s cooler, softer, or more neutral.

A gloss also adds shine and smooths the hair cuticle, which makes the color look richer and healthier. It’s kind of like the finishing filter for your hair—it pulls everything together so the color looks polished instead of flat.

It also helps your color fade more evenly over time, so your hair keeps looking good between appointments.

  • When we talk about dimensional color, it means your hair isn’t just one flat color from roots to ends. Instead, we use a mix of lighter and darker tones to create depth and contrast in the hair.

This helps the color look more natural, brighter, and more dynamic when the light hits it. It also gives the hair movement and texture, so it doesn’t look solid or heavy.

Dimensional color can include things like highlights, lowlights, or soft blends that work together to create a multi-tonal look. The goal is for your hair to look richer, more natural, and grow out more softly between appointments.

  • When we talk about cool or warm tones in hair color, we’re really talking about the undertones of the color.

Warm tones have more golden, honey, copper, or caramel shades in them. They tend to look brighter and sunnier.

Cool tones have more ash, beige, silver, or icy undertones. These tones cancel out warmth and give the hair a softer, smokier look.

Neither one is better—it just depends on the look you’re going for and what complements your skin tone best. During your service, I’ll adjust the toner or gloss so we land exactly where you want your color to be.

  • I prep and treat all of my color clients with K18 molecular spray and K18 leave in treatment. These products help to protect, strengthen and repair the hair from the inside ensuring that we are doing everything possible to keep your hair its happiest and healthiest, even while lightening/coloring it.
